That is a brilliant worded letter, I was about to write to Mr Smith but your letter says it all, so I will hang fire and see what his response is.

This way to the Tower!

Right on the money John. As you so rightly say, we are not disappointed, we expect it.

I thought this lot had lost all credibility a long time ago but they get worse every time they open their mouths or get a minion to write a letter.

These are reminiscent of the final actions of a discredited organization who will stop at nothing to cover up their ineptness. Even as Winston Churchill once said, resorting to "terminological inexactitudes".

Post Sandra Gidley
On the topic of letters. This morning I received a communication responding to my earlier correspondence last month. It reads slightly more intelligent and less rude than those further up the page!

Tony,

Thank you for your continuing support and lobbying. Your MP, Sandra Gidley, has been a brilliant supporter of the PJM and the democratic process generally. Such support is inspiring.

Barry

Post Does G.O.D. Answer
It seems that almost all of you have had a reply from G.O.D. I have not, so here is a copy of the letter that I sent to Sir Gus and will be sent again if I do not receive a reply by Monday 19th May 2008.

30th March 2008

Sir Gus O’Donnell KCB
Cabinet Office
70 Whitehall
London
SW1A 2AS

Pingat Jasa Malaysia Medal (PJM)

Sir;

I respectfully wish to draw your attention to two miss-leading statements which originated from Mr Denis Brennan’s department in June 2007.
These two statements have since been used by the FCO and by Ministers. Meg Munn MP has even suggested that they should be placed in the House of Commons Library if this were to happen it would result in miss-leading Parliament.

The intention of these two statements is to deny Veterans the right to wear Foreign Medals that have been accepted by Her Majesty where She is not Head of State, see London Gazette 3rd May 1968. 5057.

Statement one

“These regulations do not relate to awards of campaign or commemorative war medals.”

This statement comes from FCO 57 106-1968-69 (file No TXH 1/5) and is not from the London Gazette file.

Statement two

“It is well understood that offers by commonwealth and foreign countries of general service or campaign medals are not considered under the terms of the Foreign and Commonwealth Orders Regulations but are dealt with separately by the H.D. Committee by submission of separate Reports to the Queen.”
This Statement comes from FCO 57/15-1967-68 (file No TPD1/13/2) and is from the file concerning the London Gazette Notice, but has been taken out of context.

The LG Statement clearly states that if the medal has been accepted then you automatically have permission to wear along as you are not a Crown Servant when the medal is conferred.

When I wrote to the Cabinet Office in July 2007 and ask which file these two statements originated from Ms Abby Oshodi informed me that they came from file CEREMONIAL OFFICE H31.
In August 2007 I ask for a copy of this file and Abby refused my request.

On the 18th March 2008 Ms Tanya Collingridge of the FCO in an email informed me that these statements came from an old HD paper in 1968 and she was unable to give me a file number as they do not keep files that are more than three years old.

If Tanya Collingridge did not have these files how was she able to correctly brief Meg Munn MP?

The PJM was first offered to the British Veterans on the 28th July 2004 and since then there has been a campaign to deny Veterans of the Malay/Borneo campaign their right to wear this honourable medal with pride.

I am confident that should the case for wearing the PJM be looked at with an open mind come Veterans Day I shall once again be able to add my PJM to my medal bar as I did so for the Merdaka Parade in KL Malaysia last year.

I thank you for your time and look forward to your reply.
Kind regards

Paul Alders

In response to the letter received from Sir Gus, another broadside has been fired today

Sir Gus O'Donnell KCB
Secretary of the Cabinet Office and Head of The Home Civil Service

cc Mr Cameron Smith, Private Secretary to Sir Gus O'Donnell

Dear Sir Gus

I received a standard letter from your own Secretary Mr Cameron Smith dated 8th May 2008 in response to my 'private and confidential' letter' to you of April 1st 2008.

'Standard' meaning that others received exactly the same letter from your Secretary, he has not addressed the issue that I asked, so I have to ask why? This letter states nothing more than untruths to me, contrary to Army Queen's Regulations, contrary to recommendations to The Queen and that The Queen 'decided accordingly'.

I have to tell you, Sir, The Queen did no such thing, The FCO did no such thing, there is absolutely no written evidence to this effect, I would suggest you try a little harder this time and come up with the necessary evidence as messages have come out of The Cabinet Office suggesting otherwise

Yours sincerely

John Cooper

Not that it makes any significant difference....today I received a reply from Sir Gus O'Donnell's office (signed by one 'Cameron Smith')....this in response to my letter of March 31...this letter contained profuse apologies for the delay in replying and although it expressed 'sincere appreciation and admiration for all the veterans of the Conflict and the splendid service they provided' it also stressed that the HD Committee does not hold Malaya/Borneo veterans in contempt... it failed however to contain any plausible explanation of the decisions of that Committee which give every appearance of doing just that!

All in all, merely another regurgitation of the same old clap-trap to which we have all been so often exposed.

I soldier on.....

John,
At least you got a reply.
The FCO and the Cabinet Office are not talking to me? No reply to any of my emails.
Do you think I have been taken off their Christmas Card list?

I had one of those from the same person last week, but mine said 'Nothing further to add as per The Ministerial Statement of January 31st 2006

I had this in today, obviously the Secretary has been incorrectly briefed

John,

Is Commander A.G. Sullivan MA Royal Navy, an expert in Constitutional Law, or the Human
Rights Act, as he says we have no right of appeal. I am also concerned as to where a Naval Officer obtains the authority to dictate to British citizens who are not under his command or control. He should stick to dishing out the rum ration of an evening or he may find himself doing a jig to a tune not of his liking.
Perhaps Commander A.G. Sullivan MA Royal Navy should read the Ten Minute Rule Bill which received its first reading in our democratic parliament on 21st. May, 2008, before he starts giving orders to British citizens.

Yes, the Don should be told that Coney and his gang have now enlisted the help of the British Navy to try and bully us into submission but they will not succeed as we have truth and justice on our side and all they have to resort to is bureaucratic myths and injustice.

Post THE NAVAL COMMANDER
This will go first thing this morning:

I have not posted the Annexes - all are available on this site.

I had considered drawing the Commander's attention to the Royal Marine Advert, apparently filmed in Brunei, showing a Malay speaking Terrorist shouting the odds, followed by several Marines "doing what Marines do"; an insult to the Malaysians and an "own goal" for the RN who were obliged to withdraw this advert following protests by the Malaysian Government;
so much for Megg Munn's "close ties with Malaysia"! Considered; but I changed my mind.
