While the headline (in typical media fashion) only mentions 'soldiers', reading the text of the article, it specifies as follows...
" members of the armed forces deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan"
" all personnel serving overseas from next year."
"Armed Forces personnel who pay council tax"
" our Armed Forces and their families".
"We intend to extend this payment to all those deployed overseas on operations next year."

What happens if you live in Barracks as a single soldier ?

If you are single and live in barracks you do not pay Council Tax.
Its in the article someplace.

So how come this was good news when single parents bringing up a family in say a much better conditioned council house don't pay tax anyway!
