Malaysian Medals
It has been reported that the MOD has told veterans not to wear the Pingat Jasa Malaysia medals, which they recently received for service during the Malayan Emergency between 1948-1960, at this weekend's Remembrance Day commemorations. The medals were presented to the British Veterans by the King of Malaysia. It is long standing policy that non-British awards will not be approved for events or service already covered by a British award. Those who served in Malaysia and merited recognition during this period were awarded the General Service Medal. The compromise of allowing the acceptance of the Pingat Jasa Malaysia Medal, but not the wearing of it, recognises the generous gesture of the King and Government of Malaysia. This decision of the HD Committee (Committee on the Grant of Honours Decorations and Medals) is one of procedure rather than a legal ruling.
These people are all singing from the same hymn sheet - you can bet your sweet life that anything labelled MoD utters precisely the same garbage as this.
