If the Cabinet Office, and those leading the HD Committee by the nose, try and give the impression that we are the first to cry 'foul' and that we are out of step, then here is more from the National Archives from the late 1960's (i.e. from the most recently released files on this subject) that display yet again that our case has been supported throughout time and is, indeed, just about the only long-established 'rule'!
Here are the notes of a meeting called by the Lord Chancellor that discussed the "You can receive it but can't wear it" absurdity.
Sir Alex Doubtless Whom (Prime Minister) was still expressing, errr, 'doubts' about the absurdity of it all, but even he had decided it was time to put this absurdity under the microscope. So the Lord Chancellor held a meeting - read his summing up as a legal eagle!
