An interesting photo. It's also odd that with all those WW2 stars, he is not weraing the Defence Medal or 1939-1945 War Medal. Also, just ahead of his NGSM medal is, what looks like Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee Medal but with a King's Head and an MID emblem.

Thanks for that. I can now see that it is indeed the 1939-45 War Medal. It was the merging of the outer red stripes with the adjacent ribbons that threw me.
