I am sure those who received the official explanation (are you there JC?) will want to drop a billet doux to the FCO and Cabinbet Office (and MoD) referring to the QEII Coronation 'citation'.

His Royal Highness The Prince Charles, his medals and my PJM

Sirs

I came across this article on the BBC Online website and thought that I should not allow an opportunity to pass without sharing this with you, I congratulate His Royal Highness of course but I am seething that those who issue such awards are hypocritical to the 'nth degree'.

This article from the BBC is obviously attempting to make salient points on what can only be regarded as annoying to the extreme. Here we have a reader quote

"He has neck orders, breast stars, medals, decorations and awards from another 18 other countries, many given to mark his birthdays." So they are just a posh version of those 'I am 5 years old' badges you get on children's birthday cards then?
Liz, London

Here I am attempting to wear a Pingat Jasa Malaysia Medal in honour of 519 of my fallen colleagues and I am not permitted to do so because the Mother of HRH Prince Charles has allegedly signed a document preventing this! 'Rubbing salt into the wounds' is the award of The Queen's Coronation Medal to HRH, now can you imagine how enraged I am to be informed from Mr Richard Coney at the MoD that my PJM is a Souvenir or Keepsake. I take it that this still is the official line from HMG on The PJM as I have heard nothing to the contrary.

1: Order of Merit, civil version
2: GCB
3: Queen's Service Order (New Zealand)
4: Queen's Coronation medal
5: Queen's Silver Jubilee medal
6: Queen's Golden Jubilee medal
7: Canadian forces decoration
8: NZ commemorative medal
9: Knight of Most Noble Order of the Garter

Yours in rage!

Post Coronation Medal
Interesting to note, that my late uncle, Sqn Ldr Frederick Rambart-Spicer, wore the 1952 Coronation medal on his uniform.

It is my understanding, that his name was drawn from a hat regarding this.

When I was on the Manxman, 1 BEM, was awarded and names were drawn from a hat as the recipient. The buffer's name was drawn and as I have said before, rightly deserved.

I reckon that my name never went in, perhaps its sour grapes on my part.

Yours Aye

Arthur
