A question also could be asked why would anyone feel the urge to leap from a servicable aircraft using a white hankie as a sunshade?

Submarines verses Parachutes
As you all well know, there is a time and place for everything, and for everything a place.
But when as a young sprog doing my submarine training, a certain Naval Officer who shall remain nameless, was drafted to a certain P and O class boat.
Standing on the jetty waiting for said boat to come alongside, placed next to his personal belongings, he had a parachute.
Now I learned many things at Dolphin, but nothing covered parachuting from submarines as a means of escape.
I was wondering if there was anyone out there that could possibly enlighten me on this mysterious subject.
