Dear Prime Minister,
You are reported in the Sunday Telegraph of 20th June, 2010, as saying that WE MUST DO OUR DUTY BY SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN.
The article goes on to say that you want us all to support the forthcoming Armed Forces Day with an outburst of red, white and blue and that this day ‘gives all of us the chance to show our support, to veterans, to those serving in Afghanistan, and elsewhere in the world, to their families at home’.
Can you and your government do one small thing to show your support for British veterans of the conflict in Malaysia/Borneo by rescinding the shameful Jack Straw MP non-statutory rules and the Honours and Decorations Committee recommendation to Her Majesty The Queen that these veterans ONLY in the Commonwealth can accept but NOT wear the honourable Pingat Jasa Malaysia, an honourable medal awarded to all Commonwealth troops by the Agong and government of Malaysia.
Show us that you and your government are genuine in your support of our country’s veterans and allow these veterans the right to wear the PJM alongside their brothers in arms in the Commonwealth countries like Australia and New Zealand.
Such a small gesture at this time (and before our forthcoming Armed Forces Day) would indicate to all your government’s sincerity and earn the grateful thanks of 35,000 of us who had to endure inhospitable conditions whilst serving in the armed forces in the mosquito infested jungles and swamps of Malaysia and Borneo.
You ask us the British public to support our troops and veterans, but this would publicly show you and your government also support us and are ready to take immediate action to confirm this to the public at large.
Thank you.
