In a little publicised announcement, on the 3rd November the MoD confirmed that when the Armed Forces Bill received Royal Assent, the Military Covenant became recognised in statute.
Now, call me Mr Cynical if you must, but the timing of all this is of interest. One of our key planks in our final attack was the fact that the flawed 2006 PJM decision fell foul of the Military Covenant and we stated we would bring a case to the courts if the PJM situation had not been rectified when the Military Covenant became enshrined in law. Civil servants would, in our view, be breaking the law. No wonder HMG were particularly anxious to engage with, and support, the War Lords who were fighting our case.
