Dear Lord Ashdown of Norton-sub-Hamdon,
You may be aware of the Honours and Decorations Committee refusal to recommend permission to wear the Pingat Jasa Malaysia medal to British Veterans who have been awarded this by the Agong and Government of Malaysia despite such permission being granted by Her Majesty to Veterans of Australia and New Zealand. This has been re confirmed following a review of the decision and announced on Commonwealth Day this week.
I am now aware of an entry in the London Gazette headed Foreign Office / Commonwealth Office dated the 3rd of May 1968 (5057) which clearly records Her Majesties permission for such awards to be worn without restriction by Veterans who are not servants of the Crown.
As a Malaysian Veteran yourself, would you bring your good offices to bear in an effort to right this very clear wrong and slight against the Malaysian people and British Veterans.
You will find a vast range of information on the "Fight4thePJM" web site.
Yours sincerely,
John Rushton
