The man who conned himself an MBE
In response to the article in today's Daily Mail, I have just sent this off. Here's hoping.
I was interested to read Aidan McGurran's article about the man who was able to con himself into being given an MBE. It is yet another example of the fiasco that is the Honours System in this country. Earlier in the year we had the "cash for Peerages" scandal and now we find that someone can dupe the Cabinet Office into making a monumental blunder like this.
But we shouldn't be too surprised. The Malaysian government recently announced that it wished to award its Pingat Jasa Malaysia medal to all who served in Malaya/Borneo from Independence in 1957 to the end of the Emergency/Confrontation in 1966. Her Majesty, who had already agreed that her Australian and New Zealand veterans of these conflicts could accept and wear the medal, was advised by the Cabinet Office that British veterans should be allowed to accept, but not to wear, the medal. One of the reasons given was that to do otherwise would "compromise the integrity of the Honours System".
I am the Press Officer of an Association that is seeking to get this ludicrous situation reversed. We have been met with half truths and obfuscation from the Civil Servants who are dealing with this matter, and they are now beginning to blank our communications. Obviously their definition of integrity is not that which appears in normal dictionaries. It is obviously high time that the Sir Humphrey Appleby's who are responsible for the Honours System are pensioned off, with their due quota of "gongs" of course. We wouldn't like to think that just because they feel they can deprive veterans of a bloody conflict their little bit of pride in their twilight years, that these "men in suits" should not get their honours.
Yours
Gerald Law

Just a further appeal Guys 'n Gals.
We have a lot of Press and some ITN /TV coverage at the moment, we have moved out of first gear and into second, we mean to keep the momentum moving forward. The East Anglian Daily Times' has done us great credit, now its someone elses turn.
I'm working on another media group but that is not on 'my patch', I hope they highlight the cause for others. You have all got a story to tell, go tell them about 'The Forgotten War', tell them how proud you are to wear the PJM, tell them how shameful you are regarding our own HMG to our own Veterans (after all you are one!)
One last push, like you did once before!
This has appeared in The Sentinel (Staffordshire) again regarding Roy Follows

I have just sent a letter to The Sentinel supporting Roy. This paper and the EADT are certainly doing their bit to highlight our fight.
Let's hope other locals and nationals now do their bit.
